Proudvet365 - A Day We Remember, A Spirit We Carry

By Jack Sparrow on Aug 27, 2025

September 11th, 2001.

For most Americans, it started like any other Tuesday morning. But before the clock struck 9 AM, everything changed.

Four hijacked planes. Thousands of lives lost. First responders are running toward the danger. Towers collapsing. The Pentagon is burning. And for the first time in a long time, the American homeland felt the impact of war.

It wasn’t just an attack on buildings.
It was an attack on who we are.

Why We Observe Patriot Day

Each year, on September 11th, we lower our flags to half-staff. We pause. We reflect. We remember.

But Patriot Day isn’t just a day of mourning.
It’s a day to honor the courage that rose from the ashes.

The firefighters who climbed 100 floors and never came down.

The soldiers who re-enlisted the very next day.

The civilians who stood in line to give blood, open their homes, or just hold a stranger’s hand.

And every veteran — past, present, or future — who knew exactly what was coming and still said, “Let’s go.”

This Day Is Personal

If you’ve served in uniform, you probably remember what that day stirred inside you.
Anger. Pain. Purpose.

Some of you were already deployed. Some signed up because of that very day. Some lost brothers and sisters — overseas or right there in Manhattan.

And some are still carrying the weight.

We see you. We honor you. We will never forget you.

A Short, True Story:

He was 18 years old when he walked into the recruiter’s office on September 12th, 2001.
He had no plan the day before — wasn’t even sure if college was the right move.
But something clicked when he saw the second plane hit.
He didn’t flinch. He didn’t wait.
He shipped out six weeks later. Infantry. Deployed twice to Iraq, once to Afghanistan.
Came home with a limp, a Bronze Star, and a flag folded in his duffel.
Now he spends every September 11th at a quiet hill with three names he’ll never stop honoring.
"This day ain’t about politics,” he says. “It’s about remembering why we stood up in the first place.”
